What Does Heating Oil Actually Do?

Have you ever wondered about the difference between heating oil and other types of oil? Have you ever wondered about whether or not you could just pour other oil into your heating tank and whether or not it would work? What if you decided to just use vegetable oil instead of your heating oil? Well there is a difference between the oil you heat your home with and the other types of oil you can find. We will examine these differences here.

There are literally hundreds of different types of oil; we even have oil inside our own bodies. You can describe oil as a substance that cannot mix with water and is liquid at room temperature. There are many different kinds of oils that we use on a daily basis in our lives. It is used to cook with, to eat, to lubricate, to paint with, to create electricity, as a fuel for motors, to keep our skin supple, and it also has many other functions.

Heating oil comes from a type of oil called petroleum. This is the main reason why home heating oil depends largely on the cost of crude oil. The refinement process of heating oil is quite similar to that of diesel oil. A substance suitable for working in boilers is made by distilling the petroleum. In order to get the correct substance it must have a low viscosity and it has to have a flash point of 40 degrees Celsius. The reason for these criteria is so that it will turn into a mist where it can then be lit.

That is why it would be a big mistake for you to add another type of oil such as vegetable oil to your heating tank and it could more than likely cost a lot of money for it to be repaired. Most oils are created in order to do a specific job and heating oil is one of them so that is why other oils will just not do the same job.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of heating oil to ensure they never run out.
